Pickleball originated in the state of Washington by two individuals who were bored and looking for a fun activity to play during the summer.

Thats right! The game was developed by Joel Pritchard, a congressman from Washington State, and Bill Bell, a successful businessman, when they returned to Pritchard’s home on Bainbridge Island, WA in the summer of 1965. They arrived at the sight of their families sitting around with nothing to do. So, to resolve the issue, they looked around for badminton gear with no luck. Instead, they grabbed the only available gear they could find, ping pong paddles and a perforated plastic ball, and headed down to the badminton court.

As the game developed, one purpose stayed at the forefront of its development, “to develop a game the entire family could play”. Today, this mission is alive and thriving across America!
